Action

The League studies issues, develops positions and acts on these positions. Areas for emphasis on the local and state level include the following issues and will be carried out through the Working Groups in place. They are:

Diversity
Education
Environment
Healthcare
Affordable Housing
Viable Downtown
Fiscal Policy/School Funding

National Study: Immigration

The LWVUS Board adopted the following scope for the LWVUS 2006-2009 Immigration Study:
-Underlying values and principles regarding immigration
-Reasons for migration from other countries, including but not limited to:
Effects of global interdependence on migration
Motivation of refugees and asylees
Motivation of other immigrants

-Current federal immigration policy, including but not limited to:
Overview
Effectiveness in uniting families
Effectiveness in meeting needs of businesses
Effectiveness of enforcement
Human rights concerns

-Impact of immigration, including but not limited to:
Economic effects of authorized and unauthorized immigration
Diversity
Inclusion of immigrants in American society
